Devin Who? Devin Hester FOOL... (The best kick returner of all time, in case you forgot)

For all those people that are now finding out who Devin Hester is, this blog entry goes out to you lames.
It would be a tragedy, if you are just figuring out the Devin Hester is the best returner in the history of football, the mourning after he breaks the NFL Record for most kick returns for touchdowns, which stands at 14. Breaking Brian Mitchell's record of 13 which stood for over a decade.  This blog is just a reminder of  where Devin started, and how quickly he became one of the greatest players in NFL history, and has most likely placed himself in the HALL OF FAME.

From Rivera, Florida Devin was a widely acclaimed recruit in the state of Florida.  He chose the University of MIAMI, the greatest football program since the 80's, to show off his talent, and to hopefully win a National Championship.  Although his teams fell short of that accomplishment, he did not fail to put his name out as one of the most lethal and best players in college football during his time at The U.  Breaking records during his sophomore season there in 2005, he gained national attention, and became a key player, on the Defensive, Special team, and Offensive side of the ball.  Hurricane Hester was the name his teammates gave him as he was a storm on the field of play.  Being close friends with Pro-Bowlers such as Ed Reed, and Deion Sanders shaped him to be one of the greatest ever in his college career, as he fast became a household name.  Voted to the All-america team in 2005, he was not to fall short of the NFL, and he ever quickly made his mark in the league, as we all witnessed last night.

Selected by the Chicago Bears, in the 2nd round/ 57th pick in the 2006 NFL draft.  The bears took on a player that would forever change the look of the game, as they gambled but knew for sure they were getting a player that was both electrifying and a all around class act.  Devin has had no history of trouble, or problems off the field, but has his fair share of trouble causing on the field, as defenders find themselves lost and bedazzled by such a runner with a football.

His transition to the NFL, has been what everyone expected.  He does not have the greatest hands, and he doesn't run the best routs. But there is one thing he does better than anyone in the History Of Football, run in open space with the football.  Kick Returns, Punt Returns, Missed Field goal returns etc.  This man can do it all when all the players on the football field are running towards him and with him.

With a total of 14 returns in the 4 years span, not to mention he did not return kicks last year as he usually does, giving him 3 (74 games) years in which he broke this record, that took the previous record holder over 7 years to break the record, is remarkable.  Not to mention that his NFL record for the LONGEST RETURN FOR A TOUCHDOWN, is not counted towards the record because it was off a missed field goal.  He is also the first player to return the opening super bowl kick off for a TD, vs. the colts, in his college town of MIAMI..

Again, if you did not know about Devin Hester before this blog, or last night, I want you to remember a few things...

  • He is the best returner in football history.
  • Fastest to break this record
  • Its only his 4th year in the League (scary)
  • He is from the one and only (THE U)
  • He is going to be in the HALL OF FAME.
Now, keep watching this MIAMI ALUM, as he embarks on extending this record for years to come, as he seems faster than ever. I can see 30 before he retires.

ALL about the U Baby..

The Golden Era... (The University of Miami's Year of Shame)

Well I guess now that I have some time, I must shine light on my Miami Hurricanes football team, and the troubling year, or should I say years.  Growing up, I have always had true passion and heart for this team as both a fan, and a critic, living 5 minutes away from the old orange bowl as a child, to now as i live almost 900 miles away, in South Carolina, I must say I have been very disappointed in the past 5 seasons.

There has been no excitement, no SWAGGER, no winning.  We have yet to snatch a bid for a conference championship, in the lackluster ACC conference, as our fierce Rivals keep beating up the competition including MIAMI.  It is surprising that after our move from the Big East which we dominated for years, we have yet to have a 10 win season, while there have been 7 seasons in the ACC with a team with 10 or more wins. Miami is a power house, a team that is a house hold name, a team that every kid that plays football not only in the Sunshine state grows up hearing about and watching, but every player in America knows about.  This is known for creating swagger on the gridiron, it is responsible for the longest Home winning streak in the History of College Football (58 Straight) which lasted over 10 years and through 4 presidents.  It is the team that assembled probably one the most successful and the most talented football team in the history of College Football in the 2001 National Championship team, which included names such as Andre Johnson, Ed Reed, Jeremy Shockey, Kellen Winslow, Clinton Portis, Frank Gore, and Willis Mcgehee.  All which have gone to be pro bowlers in their respective positions. This is a football program that has had one alum score in over 250+ consecutive weeks in the NFL, and most importantly holds the longest streak for most consecutive 1st round players drafted to the NFL... SO WHATS MISSING FROM THE PICTURE??

Program Stability: Coaching has been ever so hard for us to bond with, our concept of coaching I can say has been misconstrued to an Idea of doing so-so and dealing with it.  Since Butch Davis left his ever so perfect class that allowed Larry Coker to win 34 games straight and a Nat. Championship in 2001, our program has been in shambles.  We hire almost always internally, which can be a positive thing, but sometimes it is good to expand your options.  Larry Coker, hired internally, and his coaching faltered once the masses of Davis's players gradated or went on to make millions.  Randy Shannon, also hired internally, never got his foot down as a head coach as it seemed he could recruit the players in South FLA, but never have an overall good performance on the field, which eventually costed him his job as coach a few weeks ago.

The other two programs: FSU and FLA, two other powerhouses, have had better performing years in the past 6 years than MIAMI, which has cost us, recruits, money, and opportunities to play and to gain respect from the media and players across the high-school platform.  We don't play UF every season, as we play them every 4 years as of now, which hurts our instate rival, and the most crucial game of the year against FSU, has had it's spotlight diminish because of lackluster play... This has to change in order to show the Nation who we truly our in our place in the College Football World.

Academics Yes, But Swagger??: Our attitude, our way of play, our vision, and mission, are truly missing, unless they are waiting for something major to happen to turn the winning ways back in our direction.  I mean if anyone can explain why we cannot even come close to beat any ranked team, and most of all, struggle to beat Duke in the past two seasons, they need to contact me right away.. This is most likely the biggest question people have about my favorite squad, but I know as a true football fan, there is something missing, and that thing is mental, and must be done by the team as a whole...

A solid QB: Everyone knows I love Jacory Harris, but c'mon man, you can't throw a legit slant, or even a ball to the numbers.  Everything Jacory has done the past two years has actually been detrimental, we need to find some consistency at this position, and most importantly get some better coaching to these guys because we have mad talent behind the center.  This must be done fast, Jacory should learn and learn quick from the new coaching staff, and an open competition should be held in the spring instead of just naming him starter.

Talent but all talk:  OUR PLAYERS MUST LIVE UP TO EXPECTATIONS. ALL I HAVE TO SAY ABOUT THAT.. IGNORE RECRUITING CLASS RANKINGS AND DO WORK.

Finally, I must end this by saying that as I was disappointed to see my boy Randy leave the program under such circumstance, I am very optimistic to see what Al Golden will put on the table for the next 5 seasons, If he makes it.. Ill Tell you what, he better recruit harder than ever, because players are disappointed in my hometown, and have no idea about this guy, and are quickly loosing respect for the program.

On that Note, If miami does not contend for an ACC title next year or win a Championship in the next 3, This program is in bigger trouble than ever before...

Im going to leave you with this...

How is this an Upgrade? (McNabb Benched Vs. Cowboys)

Let me start by saying this is probably the most ridiculous moves by the Washington Redskins...
Benching Mcnabb, probably will forever break the bond between him and the guys in the suits.  This guy has never received any respect except a foolish move to try to win him over with a contract extension.  This is after he was benched earlier this season for the Lions game.  They are trying to make the situation look better than it is.

Coach Shan, is a total bitch for this move, must I reiterate, he will be starting REX GROSSMAN over the leader in Mcnabb.  When is the last time Rex won a solid game anyways?... The lack of infrastructure in Washington, has been a topic of discussion for years now... The coaching is terrible, with the talent on this team, they should not be 3rd and 4th in the division, even if the QB play is lacking.  Yes Mcnabb has had his struggles this season, but damn, benching him when out of the playoff race is nothing but disrespect, and troublesome, and will cause a avalanche of dirty moves by the Redskins front office for seasons to come...

This is the first season Mcnabb has had a solid core around him, (NO TO), and now he has to put up with lies and false promises.  If your going to sign a guy to a multiyear extension, do not bench him for a far worse player.

All being said, I do not see Mcnabb in a redskins uniform much longer, can someone say DOLPHINS??.. As i do believe with a solid core of team management as he had at the eagles, and with no big headed trouble makers like Mr.Owens, this guy can lead any team into the playoffs...

Wonder what his career would be like if he would have won some NFC championship games.. HMMMM...

And this comes when they play their fierce rival the Dallas Cowboys interesting...

Cash Money Stupidity (M.Vick)

So this topic was not going to lay low for long. Michael Vick wants a new puppy in his household.  As this video above states.  CNN pulls this interview from who knows where, but it caught me off-gaurd.  My understanding is that Vick does not even have the right to own any kind of animal until after 2012...??  Not to mention it is not even 2011, and he is talking on camera about owning something that he is responsible for killing...

OK OK.. Before you go off on me, for bringing him out like that.. (Its the truth, so F that).. On top of that he is undoubtedly having his best season ever, never the less a potential MVP season, and is leading the pro bowl in votes.  This man just got out of prison and we thought he would never get the chance to even shine again, but he did, and I must admit he has done everything in his power to make sure everyone knows his name again, and that football is what he is associated with.

UNTILL NOW!!!

This man, with all the heat he took for the situation, and all the other shit, not decides to bring back all the talk.  Saying, he thinks it would be good for his rehab... What rehab, rehab of bonding with dogs, something you have already proven was hard for you in the first place.  Dude, like why would you even say the word animal, and mentioning such a topic during your probation was probably the dumbest thing you have done since your release.

I must say that in all, this man has been given a second chance by the NFL, to make more money than my whole town of Wagener gets in 10 years.  He makes the situation just seem as if it is a joke, bringing back the emotional ties to his criminal day, and his PETA haters, which we have not heard of since the beginning of the season.  Yes, this is directly caused because of his play on the field this season, which has overshadowed any talks as of late, but I think that will quickly change if he has this type of attitude.  This is not a matter of race, or injustice, but stupidity, which has ruined his past, and I just hope it doesn't do the same to his future.

Guess we all got to sit back and see..

Oh how role models are the ones to always let you down at the end.
