This trade was one of the biggest in the history of the NBA.. Not so much because of the star power, but because of the number of players dealt.. 13 players in total... That ties the Record for most players in a trade... In a time where free agency usually rocks teams boats.. This trade broke the notion that free agency is king.. Trades can still happen, trades are still looked at as a way to step up towards the major competition in a league where it seems lost at tim
es.

This trade as I try to look at in depth seems more about the playoffs, and short term than anything else. The power has been shifted to the east, as KOBE and Dirk, are the only players left in the west that have superstar ability... As this deal unfolded on my birthday FEB.21st, I looked at my phone in disbelief, not because of MELO going to NY, but the way he got to NY. Seems to me that the Knicks didn't care at all about the young talent, and surely didn't think to notice how important the pieces they moved were to them, and their future playoff run.. Danilo Gallinari/Raymond Felton two great pieces to the puzzle, in the Knicks resurgence this year. Traded to the nuggets with a First Round Pick (2014 or later) which means they will have 2-3 years to research and make sure they add a better piece in Denver.

Denver sure gave up some talent but truthfully they gave up 2 starters for a potential 4 starters. Pending the first round pick they receive. The young talent they have received has allowed them to show potential so far in the couple games they have played.. It seems like a high scoring team, and with out MELO, maybe they will play better defense.

The relationship between Melo' and Karl, was diminishing, and keeping him unhappy any longer would have destroyed future chances of returning to the playoffs.. Loosing to the Cavs last night sure didn't seem like a great day to talk
about the trade, so IM glad we picked today!

Anyways... We shall see how legit this team is in my hometown of MIAMI on Sunday night! Both teams win in this BlockBuster trade, But neither will be a Champion any time soon. I don't believe Melo and Stoudamire will ever be a superstar duo/ like KOBE/Shaq etc, but they will make an impact.. The east is stacked. Boston/Chicago/Miami will own this side of the NBA for many years to come..

Final Grades...

When Carmelo came into the league he was my anti-Lebron. I was a Melo fan and was against Lebron from day one, but the drama these NBA players are causing has turned me off of a few players I used to like and now Carmelo is one of them.

For the Knicks, they get their second superstar but their front office cannot be too intelligent. They basically were bidding against themselves as Carmelo made it clear that New York was the only destination for them and then gave up their #2, 3, and 4 players. (Gallinari, Chandler,
and Felton) They now basically only have Carmelo and Amare (who dont play defense as you saw Antawn Jamison and JJ Hickson go off on them last night) and Chauncey Billups who isn't getting any younger. It looks good to say that you have the big two but in a game that team is far from a contender right now.

As for the Nuggets, yes they lose a superstar and that identifiable piece but as far as basketball is concerned
they get better in my opinion. Danillo Gallinari and Wilson Chandler individually can put up the points Carmelo put up on a given night but they definitely can make up for his scoring together (50 points total last night). Raymond Felton and Ty Lawson are a two headed speedy combo at the point for the Nuggets now, Nene can have more focus on him as a scorer (I know he's capable after seeing him in the olympics) and they dont have that one player who is going to demand the ball. For the long term I believe Gallinari will be a star and an All Star type player. I look for him to be the face of the team going forward.

Timberwolves... their part in this was minimal at best.
